Calendar, Fohen: Four days in Fohia's year are important: The shortest day/longest night (Winter Solstice), the longest day/shortest night (Summer Solstice), the twice yearly days of equal day/night length (Spring Equinox and Winter Equinox.) The Fohen also mark the days (approximately) halfway between each of these days, although not necessarily with any special celebrations. In this way, the Fohen Year is divided into eight "months." Because Fohen months are similar in magnitude to terrestrial months, I will use the term "month" for each rather than making up a Fohen term.

Since the Winter Solstice signals days of increasing length, an end to winter, and the "rebirth" of the natural world, the Fohen calendar year begins at the Winter Solstice. Because the equinoxes are the only phenomena that occur more than once in a year, they are of special significance to the Fohen. During the festivals held around these times, horological societies perform special tests: At the Spring Equinox Challenge, applicants' hearing is tested and those who pass the test are accepted as Novices to the society. At the Fall Equinox Challenge, Members of the societies present their porcelain horologes and the maker of the best is chosen to spend the next year sequestered in a room at the top of the society's tower as the Timekeeper.

Calendar, Taupoian: The combination of the length of Taupoi's solar day and its distance from its sun results in a year of 503 days. The Taupoians have developed a calendar consisting of 5 months of 10 day weeks and 10 week months for each year. The additional 3 days (or a fourth leap day) at the end of each year are considered "World Days" - national holidays - and are not part of any month. The fifth and tenth days of each month are generally looked upon as unofficial holidays (like Saturday and Sunday in our calender.)
